Many working Singaporean parents place their children in child care centres around the island so that they can go to work without having to worry about their children coming to harm. But a three-year-old suffered a fractured shin under the watch of his teachers in NTUC My First Skool, which is the child care centre that he attends on a regular basis.
Alleged child abuse in My First Skool
Two video clips posted on Facebook yesterday afternoon recorded the unkind actions of Siti Hadijah, a Malay teacher from NTUC My First Skool, a child care centre located in Toa Payoh Central. She was seen physically forcing the boy to sit on the floor. Both video clips were posted by the boy’s mother on her Facebook profile and have been shared more than 6,000 times.
Boy was forced to sit, slapped by teacher
According to the footage, the Malay teacher dragged the poor boy by his left arm from the centre of the classroom to a corner, where she forcefully took him by both his arms and put him down on the floor to make him sit. It also seemed like she gave him a slap across the face moments later. The boy then tried to get up on his feet but fell down. Siti Hadijah proceeded to pick him up to put him back on his feet and pulled him by his right arm to the back of the classroom. The child limped for a good five to seven steps before she stopped and squatted down in front of him to carry him up.

Parents upset by alleged child abuse in My First Skool
It is obvious that both parents were upset by what happened in the videos, from the anger and cries in their voices, which were also recorded. The child’s father sounded infuriated by the way the Malay teacher treated his son while the mother cried when her son couldn’t stand up properly.
In addition to the videos, the boy’s mother posted a photo of his bandaged left leg on her Facebook profile. She added in a post 4 hours ago, “When you discipline a child, it does not mean breaking a bone and torturing his mental state.” According to the caption of the first video, his left shin was fractured, which was likely to have resulted from the way Siti Hadijah forcefully put him down on the floor.
